Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort and emotional support in community settings (like hospitals, schools, or nursing homes) to one or multiple people. Therapy dogs cannot go every where the same way a service dog can.
Service dogs are specially trained to perform tasks to assist a person with a disability (like mobility, medical alert, medical response, retrieveing items, etc.) Federal law requires all public establishments, with few exceptions, to allow service dogs to enter. Therapy dogs are not granted these rights.
Every dog learns at their own pace. Puppy and obedience training may take a few weeks, while service and therapy training can require months of structured learning.
There are no restrictions on breed or age for service or therapy dogs to begin training. It is important to note not every dog is suited for these roles, which is why we begin with a free evaluation to ensure your dog's temperament and abilities are a good fit.
